A SPICY HISTORY

Until 1960, there was no such thing as a Bloody Mary Mix.

As you might imagine, the quality and taste of any particular Bloody Mary was unpredictable at best. Herb and June Taylor of Van Nuys, Calif., suffered through many bland drinks that claimed to be Bloody Marys until they decided to do something about it.

In 1960, Mr & Mrs T Bloody Mary Mix was born.

It didn’t take long before the Mr & Mrs T full-bodied blend of 22 natural juice ingredients and spices was being served in bars and restaurants throughout Los Angeles. In one such establishment, the vice president of American Airlines tasted a Mr & Mrs T Bloody Mary, and he immediately contracted the Taylors to supply his airline.

Soon savvy airline passengers started demanding Mr & Mrs T Bloody Mary Mix in restaurants, at liquor stores — in short, wherever they went. Consumer demand pulled the Taylors’ delicious mixer through the channels of distribution.

In 1987, the Mr & Mrs T brand was acquired by the Mott’s U.S.A. division of Cadbury Schweppes. Looking to grow the brand even further, Mott’s introduced a Premium Blend Bloody Mary Mix marketed to those who have always made the drink from scratch. It launched in February 2003.

The brand has continued to grow and thrive, and is currently the top-selling brand of liquid cocktail mixers in the U.S. and a staple of bars, restaurants and American homes. Flavors include Bloody Mary, Bold and Spicy Bloody Mary, Premium Blend Bloody Mary, Mai Tai, Margarita, Piña Colada, Sea Breeze, Sweet & Sour, Strawberry Daiquiri-Margarita, Whiskey Sour and Sweet & Sour Concentrate.

Today, Mr & Mrs T Cocktail Mixers is part of Plano, Texas-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Inc., an integrated refreshment beverage business marketing more than 50 beverage brands throughout North America.
