Peñafiel Group Shot


Created in 1948 in Tehuacan, Puebla, by the Peñafiel family, the brand was first bottled in San Nicholas, Tetitzintla. In a little more than a decade, the brand expanded beyond its humble beginnings and into Mexico at large.



Cadbury Schweppes acquired Peñafiel in 1992, adding the historic mineral water to a family that includes dozens of other unique and historic brands. Peñafiel grew under Cadbury Schweppes management, rolling out popular line extensions and innovative packaging.

Peñafiel is a refreshing choice for those looking for a tasty way to hydrate. In August 2003, Peñafiel Twist spun into the marketplace, bringing consumers fruit-flavored mineral waters that contain more than 75 percent fewer calories than traditional soft drinks. The brand followed this with Peñafiel Naturel in April of 2004, which contains no artificial sweeteners but still offers about 75 percent fewer calories than most sodas. Peñafiel Naturel is available in orange, lemon, strawberry, grapefruit and apple flavors.

Today, Peñafiel is part of Plano, Texas-based Dr Pepper Snapple Group, an integrated refreshment beverage business marketing more than 50 beverage brands throughout North America.
